Recommended Reading

Jamie has been devouring books lately, so I decided to periodically post some recommended reads here for her (and anyone else who might be interested). So here are three books that I highly recommend reading for the summer (or anytime, really):

1) Praise Habit by David Crowder

I have been reading and re-reading this book ever since I bought it a couple years ago. The book has 2 main sections: the first section focuses on defining "praise" and "habits" and explains why we need to have a "habit of praise." The second section takes you through various psalms followed by essays with anecdotes from Crowder's daily life and his observations of people in general and how all of that relates to the praise of God. This book is really entertaining and will cause you to think hard about your "praise habits," good or bad.

2) The Beginning by Gene Edwards

The Beginning is the first book in the "Chronicles of Heaven" series by Edwards. He tells a fictional account of what creation may have looked like from the perspective of the first created being, the Recorder. Recorder's duty is to record everything that happens for all time. Recorder see the creation of the angels, the fall of Lucifer, the wonder of watching God fashion the garden of Eden and, finally, man.

This book totally transformed my views on the relationship between Heaven and earth, the impact of sin on all of creation, the love relationship between God the Creator and us, and the heavenly realm in general. Each time I read this book, I gain more insight into what a righteous life should be.

3) The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis

I just read this book last night for the first time. That's right, the ENTIRE book. Without giving too much away, this book is about heaven, hell, and eternal life. I really enjoyed it. For me, it really compliments the insight that reading The Beginning gave me. They have similar subject matter in some respects. If you liked 1984 by George Orwell, or any of Lewis' other works, I'd recommend this book to you.

Kate's Top Three C.S. Lewis Books (in no particular order):
1. The Magician's Nephew
2. The Great Divorce
3. The Screwtape Letters
If you would like to recommend any books, music or movies to Soul Pardon, please email Kate and she'll post your reviews/recommendations on the blog for you.
